Transportation - Bus Monitor

Reports To:

                Transportation Supervisor                  

Qualifications:

                Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED

 Purpose Statement:

                To assist the school bus driver in supervision of students and maintaining a safe environment for all students while bus is in operation.

 Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Supervise students and assist the bus driver in maintaining discipline on school bus; monitor and assist students while bus is in operation stopping any unsafe behaviors.
  • Consult with and assist bus driver in documentation of student information, recordkeeping and submitting bus referrals.
  • Assist student loading, unloading, and seating arrangements as required.
  • Understand and relate to children with special needs.
  • Observe health and safety regulations.
  • Assist driver in assuring seat belts, harnesses and wheelchair clamps are secured as required for students with special needs.
  • Assist parents and school personnel with safe loading and unloading of students; coordinate seating of pre-kindergarten students as required by State Transportation Guidelines.
  • Communicate with classroom assistants, teachers, principals, and parents concerning student background, medical problems, and behavior as appropriate.
  • Maintain current knowledge of Emergency Evacuation procedures.
  • Attend in-service meetings and training courses as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain regular attendance

Capacity and Ability Requirements:

                The usual job demands requires the following physical requirements: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, and physical dexterity.

 

 

Terms of Employment:

                Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District’s approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the District.

 

Evaluation:

                Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
