Job Title: Courier

Reports To: Assistant Superintendent Human Resources and Academic Services

Qualifications: High School Diploma, valid driver’s license, possess and maintain a good driving record 

Purpose Statement: To support the daily operations of Hawkins County Schools by ensuring the safe, professional, and efficient delivery of mail, supplies, and food.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Obey traffic laws, and follow established traffic and transportation procedures  
  • Inspect van and equipment, such as mirrors, lights, gas gauge, temperature gauge, tires turn signals, and brakes in order to ensure that vehicle is in proper working condition  
  • Report delays, accidents, or other traffic/transportation situations affecting delivery schedules to scheduled schools/offices as well as personnel supervisor  
  • Deliver mail and items to various schools and offices affiliated with Hawkins County Schools  
  • Load and deliver food items distributed by Family Resource Center to individual schools  
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive documents  
  • Use  handtruck, dollie, ramps, etc. to load/unload/deliver items  
  • Display professional and positive attitude while working with HCS personnel and other agencies 
  • Regular and predictable attendance is a core requirement of this position.
  • Regular, effective interpersonal communication with team members and stakeholders is required.
  • Other duties as assigned to ensure the success of Hawkins County Schools and safety of all students and staff.

Capacity and Ability Requirements: The usual job demands require the following physical requirements: some lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, and physical dexterity. 

Terms of Employment: Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the district’s approved compensation plan.  The length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the district.

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Hawkins County School Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
