Athletic Director - Volunteer High School 26-27

Reports To:

  • Principal of building, Director of Schools


Qualifications:

  • Tennessee Teacher Certificate
  • Prior experience as a coach (highly recommended but not necessary)
  • Position requires a working knowledge of TSSAA rules and regulations; good organizational and communication skills; and ability to work cooperatively with others.

Purpose Statement:

The primary function of the Athletic Director is to manage and oversee the school’s interscholastic athletic program.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Prepare a master budget and supervise equipment inventories.
  • Coordinate gym, building and athletic field use for practices and games.
  • Seek and recommend suitable competition for all non-conference events/games.
  • Provide schedules to Official’s organization for scheduling purposes.
  • Secure game workers for athletic contests, chain crews, announcers, clock operators, score keepers, line judges, etc.
  • Assist in supervision at home athletic contests.
  • Mediate the resolution of problems, issues, and concerns that may arise between coaches and athletic programs.
  • Checks and requests updating of equipment and uniforms as necessary to remain in compliance with NFHS, TSSAA, and industry guidelines.
  • Maintains necessary attendance forms, insurance records and similar paperwork.
  • Submits and maintains all eligibility reports/rosters.
  • Coordinates scheduling of annual physical day with team doctors and/or athletic trainer.
  • Checks and oversees the safety conditions of practice and game facilities.
  • Enforces discipline and sportsmanship behavior at all times and establishes and oversees penalties for breaking each standard.
  • Attends clinics and seminars to improve athletic director duties.
  • Keeps abreast of any rule changes each year.
  • Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with participants, parents, administration and other coaches pertaining to academic, physical and behavioral progress of all participants.
  • Serves as primary contact with student-athlete insurance providers in cases of injury.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by principal.

                The working hours will be flexible, requiring  work at nights preparing for games and attending games as well as working some weekends. The work environment will include indoor and outdoor conditions.

Terms of Employment:

            Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District’s approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the District.

            Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
